Science Fiction is an interesting genre. It offers the opportunity for me to merge both learning AND entertainment in one. This seems efficient. The issue is I do not know of any media that I can consume to satisfy both needs.
My goal is to find science fiction content that is well written and actually teaches me science in a fun and exciting way. A child version of this would be Artemis Fowl which makes the intelligent protagonist exciting to follow.
If there were no barriers to success, I would activate my all knowing intelligence to scour the globe and web for anything that would meet my criteria and is something I could really dig my teeth into.
The biggest issue then is discovery, how do I know what I want to read, listen to, and watch? Science Fiction is a large genre and I am sure there is a lot of not interesting or not well written pieces of content. Not only am I interested in it being scientifically accurate and a source of learning, I want it to conform to my interests so that I can’t put it done.
Maybe, I should define some things that really get me hooked. 1.) clear writing that I can follow along with and not get lost E.g., it should be within my reading level. 2.) It should have an interplay of interesting characters and an engaging story line 3.) it should be brief- I can do books but I do not want novels and long series unless they are literally the creme de la crop.
Because I am not really wanting to do the research myself, I can share my goal and criteria with my customGPT to compute for me.
I should mention that along with books, I would also be interested in articles or news companies that do interesting science and technology pieces. I use Readwise and want to add a feed or two along this genre.
A problem that comes up as a consequence of this is content tracking. With news articles and youtube accounts I can aggregate into my Readwise account but books are a little more challenging. I think for now, I will keep it simple with my process of adding books to Readwise also as an initial step and sending to Kindle if I want to commit to it but at some point this may need to be optimized.
